Consuming Kids part 1 of 7

Consuming Kids throws desperately needed light on the practices of a relentless multi-billion dollar marketing machine that now sells kids and their parents everything from junk food and violent video games to bogus educational products and the family car. Drawing on the insights of health care professionals, children’s advocates, and industry insiders, the film focuses on the explosive growth of child marketing in the wake of deregulation, showing how youth marketers have used the latest advances in psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience to transform American children into one of the most powerful and profitable consumer demographics in the world. Consuming Kids pushes back against the wholesale commercialization of childhood, raising urgent questions about the ethics of children’s marketing and its impact on the health and well-being of kids. This was disturbing but useful to watch. Wow money really does move the world, people will do anything, it is disgusting!

    So far off to a great start on a very important topic. In fact, I was just ranting about it the other day.
    However, I do have to question the clip of the kid throwing a tantrum. When you watch the entire ad, it couldn’t be more targeted towards single, adult men. Maybe I am missing the point, and it was only intended as a humorous example to highlight nagging.

    they also make products that break easily, so that consumers keep buying new ones…

    they do these research and tests like as if these kids are like rats in a lab…not only kids but also grown ups are treated like rats in a lab…sick

    If more people were aware of this, the society would be more balanced and the big corporations wouldn’t think they could just walk all over us.

    for anyone who is in the least bit concerned about children (their own or other people’s) or the future adults and leaders of this country (usa) you should watch this entire film and share it with others and GET INVOLVED IN POLITICS. we have lost control of how much our children should be marketed to (if at all) and our children are becoming self-absorbed, emotionally disconnected and mentally under-developed & behaviorally stunted grown-ups. This is a great and impt. film.

    while i will admit i actually found this trying to discover what children’s flesh tastes like, after a conversation with my roommate, i still think it is an important video.

  13. crackeyes98 says:

    You sound like Pope Benedict who said the same thing when the kids who were molested They clergy representatives said oh we should forgive them. I say :P forgive and not do anything about it. Sometimes i think the word freedom and forgiveness is used too loosely to mean oh don’t worry about it. Its not your problem. :P to that I say strong activism is need and intelligent people not just religious ideology.

    @RachaelCab You should definitely try watching it!

    @Selasia,
    The greatest scheme the devil has ever pulled is convincing the world he does not exist. There is evil in all of us no doubt but in the cross is eternal forgiveness for all of that evil. I have searched the world high and low for truth and I found it. I have sought out many belief systems in my years looking for what was reality and through unforseen circumstances I found Jesus. Btw, my husband posted that reply under my account on accident. I’ve never even seen this video.

    @RachaelCab

    No.

    Your fear is. Your ignorance is. Your dishonesty is. Your loneliness is. Your psychosis is. Your spiritual blindness is. Your disconnect with mind and nature is.

    The word “evil” is just a concealment phrase you use to not deal with reality.

    That so called “evil” is right there in you and me. Dare to look at it and then transmute it.

    It’s so absurd that advertising companies have the power to actualy regulate what the FTC has athority over. But I guess if you bribe enough congressmen under the guise of lobbying you can do anything.
